An ode to structural engineering professors

You made us think beyond the bounds,

made us believe that the concept matters more than Newtons or Pounds

Being told, again and again, its the essence that counts,

because it is the one, on which the theory mounts

You made us use our brain, both left and right,

With every drop of knowledge, making our future bright

We were made to grow as an exponential grew,

We learned more and more, with every figure we drew

The real test of a structure is when you shake it,

which is what you did to test us, if we can make it

You were the ones, to which our structures deformed,

and the real reason, why we performed

The world may have their Superman and Spiderman,

but we have our own ironmen,

who stand firm in the winds of change,

teaching us to stretch and embrace the inelastic range

You taught us to think beyond earning,

because actually life manifests through learning

We, thank you for all the intuition,

because I feel it is the best form of tuition

In the end, I would like to say that the wealth that increases by giving, that wealth is knowledge and is supreme of all possessions which is what you have shared with us, for which we would be always grateful to you.

Thank you!
